Babbacombe Bay Bloomers Retiring Treasurer Mrs Jill Gillon – We would like to thank Jill for her many years of commitment and dedication as treasurer of Babbacombe Bay Bloomers, formerly the local District Action Group.
Jill has been volunteering in and around St Marychurch & Babbacombe for more than 45 years and at one time was on seven local committees, including the Babbacombe & St Marychurch Traders Association and the Friends of Babbacombe Cliff Railway.
Along with her husband Ted, Jill worked tirelessly on many local projects by organising Victorian Evenings, maintenance of the Victorian lamppost in the Precinct, the Armistice Service stalls at Babbacombe Fayre, creating red poppy displays in the Churchyard, helping to secure the takeover of the Cliff Railway and numerous fund raising activities on behalf of the Babbacombe Bay Bloomers group.
Jill was also heavily involved in the 1999 Millennium Copse project, helping to rescue and restore the woodland for people to enjoy a community inspired Wildlife and Conservation Green area. It is still cared for today by the Babbacombe Bay Bloomers group, attracting birds and insects, field mice, wood mice, frogs, toads, newts, slow worms, badgers, foxes, owls, and bats.
To simply say ‘thank you’ does not seem enough as Jill’s lifetime achievement record is quite amazing. Babbacombe Bay Bloomers presented Jill with a selection of gifts including a personalised bird box, a robin nest, a framed thank you certificate and some local Cockington chocolate. Jill you are a legend, we thank you.
