Abbi and Sally, who own and run the flower shop Fiesta Red in the Precinct, came up with idea of a scarecrow trail in 2018.
The shop keepers and local residents in St Marychurch, the Shopping Precinct and Babbacombe all participated. Of course we joined in with making several of our own. What a success it was! The weather was really good and about 400 people bought the route map and followed the trail to view over sixty fantastic creations. There were many visitors and locals just walking around and finding it oh so funny and enjoyable.
Sally and Abbi ran it again in 2019 and there were even more scarecrows this time, over ninety popped up in local gardens, all along the length of the Downs, care homes, shops, pubs and Businesses, private houses, road sides, Churches and of course the shopping Precinct. The weather was kind once again and people came from far and wide to find the scarecrows.
The scarecrows were back in 2022 and 2023. What a great yearly event this has become.
Here is the Scarecrow video 2022.
